The donations made by the Steyr real estate entrepreneur to the FP-affiliated association “Austria in Motion” are the only evidence that positions have been awarded for money in the FPÖ.
In an interrogation protocol of the Economic and Corruption Public Prosecutor’s Office (WKStA) published by the “Presse”, Stieglitz outlines the path to his mandate as Asfinag supervisory board.
10,000 euros in pieces
Ex-FP boss Heinz Christian Strache asked him in 2017 for “a favor”, a donation. He then transferred 10,000 euros to the aforementioned club “so as not to attract attention,” said Stieglitz. In the election campaign he again took over the lion’s share of the cost of 14,450 euros for a tour bus through the club. “I wanted to be on as many supervisory boards of state-related companies as possible” because he saw it as a “great honor”, says Stieglitz, who has an honorary doctorate awarded by the University of Skopje for lack of a degree, is quoted by the WKStA.
Strache assured him of this in a personal conversation. In February 2018, he was then appointed to the Asfinag Supervisory Board by the now Infrastructure Minister Norbert Hofer (FP). His actual wish to become a member of the supervisory board of ÖBB Holding was no longer fulfilled.
The WKStA examines whether Stieglitz, who by his own account had no idea about the requirements of a supervisory board, tried to entice politicians into giving him functions through gifts. The presumption of innocence applies to all of the above.
