The corona pandemic has left its mark on children and young people. Politicians must pay more attention to their well-being, the President of the German Medical Association is now demanding.
The President of the German Medical Association, Klaus Reinhardt, has called on politicians to pay more attention to the well-being of children and young people when fighting the corona pandemic.
“Today we know what enormous damage the school and daycare closures, this month-long isolation caused by the contact restrictions on children and young people,” said Reinhardt on Friday at the German Doctors’ Day in Bremen.
The consequences are, for example, fear of the future, increased pressure to perform and loneliness. In addition, family tensions, conflicts and domestic violence have increased. “We have to develop strategies to keep daycare centers and schools open and in this way enable the adolescents to lead a largely normal life,” said Reinhardt, looking ahead to autumn and possible new virus variants.
At the beginning of the week, Reinhardt demanded that the next prime ministers’ conference on June 2 at the latest must set the course for the safe operation of schools and daycare centers. The effects of the Corona crisis on children and young people were a key topic at the 126th German Doctors’ Day, which ended in Bremen on Friday.
