At the age of 14, Markus Rehm got caught in a ship’s propeller while wakeboarding. Since then he has been walking with a prosthetic leg. And not only that: Rehm competes as a long jumper at the Paralympic Games in London in 2012 and 2016 in Rio – and wins gold! The three-time gold medal winner wanted to compete in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 – but the World Athletics Federation thwarted the 32-year-old’s bill.
Reason: His prosthesis is a “mechanical aid”.
