“Covid has limited me a lot”: Young doctors report on their experiences

In a broadcast they describe their personal experiences with Corona. They report on young patients who had to struggle with the consequences of Covid for a long time. This includes a young doctor from Linz who talks about physical limitations. The message to young people is the same: “Please get vaccinated!”

One case is particularly remembered by Katerina Srpova. That of a young man who unknowingly infected his grandparents with the virus. “Unfortunately, you then died of Corona,” said the young doctor at the Ordensklinikum Linz (Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine).

Other colleagues use personal experiences to show that an infection can have serious consequences for boys too. Some colleagues who were ill would still breathe heavily “if they had to walk a floor or two,” says Paul Schlagnitweit, who as a plastic surgeon also helped out on a Covid ward.

You cannot always rely on fitness: A 20-year-old competitive athlete has not returned to her old form months after her illness, reports internist Daniela Szcs. David Baumgartner, who works as an anesthetist at the Vcklabruck Clinic, knows similar cases: Some young, previously perfectly fit people would still have difficulties coping with everyday life.

Christoph Neubacher knows that. “I have recovered and been vaccinated. Covid has severely restricted my physical performance for weeks,” says Neubacher, who works at the Ordensklinikum Linz

Together, the young doctors campaign for vaccinations. “It’s not just about yourself, but also about your fellow human beings”, so the appeal by Andrea Jachs (Ordensklinikum).
