Advanced students might remember a song from the 1980s, it was quite a hit back then. Ina Deter sang “Women come slowly – but powerfully!” In the CDU, however, women tend not to make any progress and hardly ever appear. The infinitely long reign of Chairwoman Angela Merkel has changed just as little as the very short reign of party leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. The party does not have a prime minister in all of Germany. All CDU state associations are led by men. Just over a quarter of party members are women.
