Millions of people worldwide depend on grain exports from Ukraine. But the Russian war of aggression blocked exports. The Kremlin is now cooperative.
In the crisis surrounding the blockade of Ukrainian grain exports, Russia has emphasized its willingness to cooperate – and has again leveled allegations against Ukraine.
“We know of our country’s willingness (…) to contribute to the solution of this crisis and to the export of grain from Ukrainian ports,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday, according to the Interfax agency.
Other states are also trying to do this – such as mediating Turkey. “But we do not yet know whether Ukraine wants this, whether it is ready, because it is silent,” Peskov criticized. Ukraine keeps demanding that the way for its grain be cleared – by rail or via the ports in the Black Sea, which are blocked by the Russian Navy. She blames Russia alone for the blockade.
Ukraine, the world’s fourth largest grain exporter, has been stuck on its own stocks since the beginning of the war of aggression that Russia launched at the end of February. The West blames Moscow for the looming food crisis in much of the world because Russian forces have either occupied or blockaded Ukrainian ports.
Russia, on the other hand, accuses Ukraine of having mined its own ports – and of not wanting to clear the mines again. Ukraine, on the other hand, fears that Russian troops could invade the country via the coast.
