Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier ended his two-day state visit to Indonesia today with a visit to the temple complex in Borobudur.
At the end of his state visit to Indonesia, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the famous Borobudur temple. The 1200-year-old complex is the largest Buddhist temple in the world and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.
Among other things, Steinmeier had the maintenance work on the building, built between 780 and 840, explained to him, in which Germany is making a financial contribution. Climbing the various levels of the building was also a sweaty affair for him.
At the University of Gadjah Mada, the Federal President later held a discussion on food security, which is also endangered in many regions of the world as a result of the Ukraine war. Steinmeier was concerned about developments over the next two years. This could be “very serious”. A meeting with Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and Queen Hemas of Yogyakarta and a visit to the National Museum rounded off the visit.
Steinmeier first visited Singapore for two days and then Indonesia. After talks with President Joko Widodo, Steinmeier reaffirmed Germany’s and the EU’s willingness to become more involved in the region in the future.
