GK finances relax with economic upturn

The reason given by the GK is the relaxation of the corona measures and the associated relaxation in the labor market. The number of people in work with compulsory insurance is now higher than it was before the crisis. Compared to 2020, the GK recorded an increase of 4.1 percent in the contributions for employees with compulsory insurance.

Accordingly, the forecast available to the APA for 2022 has improved significantly. In May, the GK had feared a deficit of 198 million euros for next year, now the forecast has been lowered to a minus of 86.7 million euros.

However, the GK continues to draw attention to a “catch-up effect”. If in the first year of the pandemic the use of medical services still decreased, “a catch-up effect” can be felt here. Missed examinations from 2020 are being rescheduled and regular visits to doctors are also taking place more regularly.
