Left before party congress: meaningless, leaderless – superfluous? Analysis in “important today”

Left before party congress: meaningless, leaderless – superfluous? Analysis in “important today”

Disastrous results in state elections, cases of sexism and a Sahra Wagenknecht who does not manage to describe the Russian war of aggression as such – the left is in this state. At the party conference in Erfurt, she now wants to make a fresh start.

“We strongly condemn Russia’s criminal war of aggression.” Sahra Wagenknecht wanted to have this sentence deleted from the leading motion of the left before the party conference in Erfurt, which begins this Friday. The prominent left finds it difficult to hold Russia accountable. Journalist Jonas Schulze Pals says in the 303rd edition of the podcast “important today”: “It also has a lot to do with an anti-American view of the world that people don’t see Russia as an aggressor, but the USA, through a NATO eastward expansion.”

Wagenknecht will stay away from the party conference. She was on sick leave, there was a suspicion that she had contracted Corona. She very much regrets that she cannot come to Erfurt, she told the DPA news agency.

“important today”

Sure, opinionated, on the 12: “today important” is not just a news podcast. We set topics and initiate debates – with attitude and sometimes uncomfortable. Host Michel Abdollahi and his team speak out for this star– and RTL reporters with the most exciting people from politics, society and entertainment. They let all voices have their say, both the quiet and the loud. Anyone who hears “important today” starts the day well informed and can have a well-founded say.

Die Linke: A disoriented party

The party’s own stance on Russia is not the only internal problem. The sexism scandal has not yet been resolved, only co-chair Susanne Hennig-Wellsow withdrew from the party leadership in April. Janine Wissler, on the other hand, is still at the top of the party and would like to run again in Erfurt – although Wissler is criticized internally for having acted too late against the allegations against her better judgment.

A new beginning looks different, also criticizes Sahra Wagenknecht. A big problem for the left is their lack of orientation, says Jonas Schulze Pals: “There are many issues where the left has no clear direction in terms of content. Let’s take a look at Corona, we heard voices from some MPs that the Measures are state arbitrariness. In the case of others, measures could not be tough enough. Even in the Ukraine war, one was rarely able to perceive a unified position from this party.”

In Erfurt, the left now wants to rearrange itself and reposition itself. The only Prime Minister of the left, Bodo Ramelow (Thuringia), calls for a clear position on Russia. The Left must find clear positions on this and many other current issues. If she doesn’t do that, further disasters threaten – like the two percent result in the North Rhine-Westphalia election. And the question would arise more than ever: does the left still need it at all?
