In some cases there were clashes with vehicles. Similar demonstrations also took place in Boston and Seattle. People also demonstrated against the decision in front of the Supreme Court itself. The mobilizing indignation about the step could go far – up to the congressional elections in November. The decision is also likely to fuel debate over the legitimacy of the court, which was once an unassailable cornerstone of the American system but is increasingly being called into question because of several conservative decisions.
