Flood disaster: CDU: Ahrweiler’s district administrator is no longer in the foreseeable future

Jürgen Pföhler has not been on duty for a few days due to illness. The CDU parliamentary group is now striving for an unencumbered new beginning.

The district administrator of the Ahrweiler district, which was badly hit by the flood disaster, Jürgen Pföhler, will no longer exercise his office due to illness, according to the CDU parliamentary group in the district council.

The step of “no longer exercising his office was therefore necessary and inevitable,” said the group’s statement published on Monday. As far as he knows, it is not about resigning, said CDU district manager Michael Schneider on Tuesday.

In the statement of the group it said: The trust of the people in the district is no longer given. «In the current situation, the Ahrweiler district needs an unencumbered new start in its management, because the challenges of the coming years will demand a lot of strength and commitment. This presupposes the trust of the population in the politically responsible. “

According to a district spokeswoman, the district administrator has not been on duty since August 11 due to illness. Pföhler himself did not initially comment.

The public prosecutor’s office is investigating the district administrator and another member of the crisis team in connection with the flood disaster in mid-July. This concerns the initial suspicion of negligent homicide and negligent bodily harm caused by failure on the evening of the flood.
