Pessimism is the motto of the hour in Germany. The current ZDF “Politbarometer” comes to the conclusion:
Three quarters of Germans do not expect the Ukraine war to end this year
Only 19 percent of those surveyed assume that the war will end this year. On the other hand, more than three quarters (76 percent) believe that the war will last longer.
Military support for Ukraine from western states should be increased, according to 44 percent of respondents. Further 32 percent talk each other for maintaining the previous aid which include, in particular, arms deliveries. Only 18 percent think there should be less military support. The majority of them are AfD (62 percent) and Left (52 percent) supporters.
In view of the war in Ukraine, NATO is of enormous importance for Germany’s security for the majority of those surveyed. 60 percent consider NATO very important and 30 percent important. Only four percent assign it a less important role and three percent no importance at all.
