In a public letter, intellectuals are once again calling for a ceasefire to be established in Ukraine. Military expert Carlo Masala says in the stern podcast “Ukraine – the situation” why he thinks it’s cheap.
Military expert Carlo Masala has dismissed calls by a group of writers and intellectuals for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. Masala says im star– “Ukraine – the situation”, if you call for an end to hostilities, you also have to say what exactly should happen. He pointed out that ceasefires were often only used to prepare for the continuation of military conflicts.
The politics professor at the Bundeswehr University in Munich: “Where are the incentives? Where are the strategies? All of that is missing. This makes the call for a ceasefire cheap.” Masala criticizes that the authors of the letter published in “Die Zeit” would name Russia as the aggressor, but then assigned both sides the same responsibility. “Actually one should also say that what the authors are calling for is the Kantian peace in the graveyard. In other words, a peace in Ukraine that is only at the expense of the Ukrainian civilian population.”
Masala: Russia will offer ceasefire after conquering Donbass
Masala reiterates his expectation that Russia will offer a ceasefire once it has achieved full control of Donbass. Ukraine will refuse because they want to keep their entire territory. However, this will put the West in a difficult position. “Then we will have to prepare for tense, diplomatic disputes,” said Masala.
At last week’s summit meetings, Ukraine received maximum diplomatic support. But there were still no promises to supply weapons such as battle tanks, which would allow the Ukrainians to effectively push back the Russian army. “Not that much has happened in terms of material support for Ukraine,” says Masala.
