Women were not allowed to work, had to wear the burqa and were only allowed out if accompanied by a male family member.
Women were prohibited from speaking or laughing out loud in public – photos and videos of women were prohibited.
Girls were excluded from school. Men had to wear turbans and long beards.
No clear laws and enforceable rights
The moral police beat up rule breakers.
Offenses were punished with flogging, thieves’ hands were cut off.
Homosexuals were stoned. Murderers were executed by the relatives of their victims.
