SDP President-elect Luis Montenegro has already voted in favor of elections to the party’s national bodies and has left any interference for later.
“Now is the time to vote, now is not the time to interfere,” he said upon his arrival on the last day of the SDP’s 40th National Congress at around 9:50 am.
A few minutes before the arrival of Luis Montenegro, he voted for his opponent in the last direct election of the leadership of the PSD, Jorge Moreiro da Silva.
The main session of the PSD concludes today with a more country-focused closing speech by Luis Montenegro and the election of national bodies, for which he asked for “significant support”.
At the beginning of the congress, on Friday, Montenegro promised several concrete proposals for today, namely on the social emergency program, which he defended during the internal campaign.
“The government is confused and not focused on the main thing (…) The government is not responding, it is whistling in the air, it does not have the courage to have a social emergency program, but we in the SDP will work to present concrete measures in this area, and in the conclusions of this congress, I will have the opportunity to leave you some guidance on what the government can and should do to help people who are in a very weak economic and social situation,” he said.
Luis Montenegro said the government has a “moral obligation” to use the excess tax revenue to help those struggling with inflation.
Voting for national bodies takes place from 09:00 to 11:00, with curiosity to know if Montenegro will receive an enhanced vote for its National Political Commission. At the last convention, the Rio administration won 67.6% of the vote.
In his direction, Luis Montenegro kept secret until the end and surprised with the statement of the vice-presidents, MEP Paulo Rangel and rival in the race for the leadership of 2020 Miguel Pinto Luz, as well as supporters such as Margarida Balseiro Lopez, Paulo Cunha. or Antonio Leitao Amaro.
For the National Council, the board submitted a list led by Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas and former finance minister Maria Luis Albuquerque, and has already seen the competition “cut”.
Instead of the eleven lists presented at the last congress, in December last year, to the so-called party parliament, today only seven are going to vote and none of them with an oppositional accent.
The closing session, scheduled for 13:00, will be attended by representatives of PS, CDS, IL, PCP, PAN, Livre and Chega, and the mayor of Porto, the independent Rui Moreira, has accepted PSD’s invitation to visit Rosa. Pavilion Mota.
