AR is discussing a vote of no confidence this Wednesday and Chega should be isolated when voting for

The Assembly of the Republic will discuss and vote this Wednesday on a vote of no confidence in the government presented by Chega, which failed from the outset, given the absolute majority of the PS, with the supporter isolated in the vote in favor.

The no-confidence vote was announced on Friday by Chega President Andre Ventura, justifying with a set of situations going through “absolute health chaos” the government’s options in the face of higher fuel prices, culminating in “acting politically more seriously” with Infrastructure Minister Pedro Nuno Santos.

In a vote of no confidence entitled “to end the constant erosion of trust in the government and the chronic impoverishment of the Portuguese”, the party accuses the government of “lack of strategy”.

“Several months of the XXIII Constitutional Government have already sufficiently proved its incapacity and organization,” Chega defends.

Noting that the situation around Lisbon’s new airport was “the last straw”, the party notes that “much less than this absolute institutional turmoil, the then President of the Republic, Jorge Sampaio, dissolved the Assembly of the Republic” when Prime Minister Pedro Santana López.

“Enough believes that there is still time for change and for turning this path back, but that requires change and reform, which this government does not appear to be able to promote,” Chega points out in a vote of no confidence, arguing that “ an absolute majority can never be a blank card for the ruling party to do whatever it wants, namely to harm the Portuguese and not rule with the dignity they deserve.”

The debate, scheduled for 15:00, is expected to last more than three hours, and the motion will be put to a vote shortly after discussion.

In accordance with the Standing Orders of the Assembly of the Republic, debates are opened and closed by the first of those who signed the proposal, and the Prime Minister has the right to intervene immediately after and before these speeches of supporters.

“The issue of no confidence is considered approved only when the absolute majority of the current deputies voted for it. If the motion of no confidence is not approved, the signatories of it will not be able to introduce another during the same legislative session,” text.

The approval of a vote of no confidence entails the resignation of the government, which does not happen in this case.

On Tuesday, the SDP and the Liberal Initiative announced that they would abstain in the vote of no confidence, while the BE and PKP would vote against, like the PS, the party in government with an absolute majority of deputies in the Assembly. republics. .

The only PAN MPs, Inés Souza Real, and Livre, Ruy Tavares, have yet to announce their vote.

President Chegi called on social democrats and liberals to join his party and vote in favor. After the PSD vote was revealed, André Ventura expressed “great disappointment and political frustration”.

“The fact that Luis Montenegro made a proposal to abstain on the bench of the Social Democrats is not only a betrayal of what he himself said at the convention, but also shows that we will probably have a second version of Rui Rio,” he criticized on Tuesday .
