The Prime Minister said this Wednesday that the new National Health Service (NHS) Statute will be approved Thursday at a meeting of the Council of Ministers, given that it will improve the organization and autonomy of management in hospitals.
The topic of health was one of the two that António Costa touched upon in his opening speech at the parliamentary debate on the vote of no confidence presented by Chega ao Governo.
“The new Statute of the SNS, which we will approve on Thursday in the Council of Ministers, is intended to provide structural answers to the problems that the Portuguese experience in their daily lives in contact with the SNS,” said the leader of the Executive.
The new SNS Statute, which António Costa was already expecting to be approved by the Council of Ministers this July, will allow “organizational improvements”.
“This will improve the functioning of services, a coordinated and networked response to assistance. There will be greater management autonomy, including autonomy in the recruitment of specialists, and this will make a decisive contribution to improving access to health care,” supported.
Thirdly, according to the Prime Minister, the new charter will provide “higher motivation for medical workers with the creation of a full-time regime, exceptional recruitment and overtime regimes, and mechanisms for ensuring the health of medical workers in disadvantaged geographical areas.” .
Since the entry into force of the new SNA Regulation, this regulatory framework, according to the chief executive, will be complemented by “reforms and investments to strengthen the SNA, provided for by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), totaling 1.24 billion euros by 2026.
“With this amount, the hospital reference network will be implemented, the reorganization of emergencies in the Lisbon and Porto metropolitan areas and the generalization of joint responsibility centers for hospitals will be carried out. new medical units, the creation of 34 new mobile units, the expansion of its offer, for example, dentistry and the modernization of analysis and diagnostic equipment,” said Antonio Costa.
António Costa added that thanks to PRR, the responses of the National Continuing Integrated Care Network and the National Palliative Care Network will expand “to 7,400 inpatient and outpatient beds and 1,200 home beds.”
“Since 2015, we have already strengthened the financial resources of the SNA by more than 40% and increased human resources by more than 20%,” he added.
