PAN urges Banco de Fomento and finance minister for urgent hearing on support for Mario Ferreira

This Wednesday, PAN demanded an urgent hearing of the President of Banco Português de Fomento and the Minister of Finance in the Assembly of the Republic to provide clarification regarding the allocation of support under the Strategic Recapitalization Program.

In a request today to the parliamentary committee on economics, the People-Animals-Nature party also justifies the need for a hearing with the news of a “manpower shortage” at Banco de Fomento and the news that half of the distribution of the recapitalization program has been awarded to Pluris Investments, a holding company a company owned by Mario Ferreira to support her travel companies.

“In addition to the excessive concentration of support in a small number of companies (12) and especially in large companies in the tourism sector (4), the allocation of more than half of the allocations for this program (52%) to Pluris is particularly worrying. Investments, holding businessman Mario Ferreira, to support his activities in the tourism sector, ”the environmental party said in a statement.

PAN argues that “on the one hand, the tourism activities of Mario Ferreira’s company are aimed at activities that are hardly compatible with the goals of the transition to a more ecological society, since they contribute to the decharacterization of the Douro River, its banks and their natural heritage, as well as the destruction of biodiversity” .

On the other hand, he continues, “in addition to the mention of the name of Mario Ferreira in the Maltese dossier, it has become known that the European Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating alleged signs of money laundering in the context of the allocation of European funds, as well as two requests to DCIAP, one of concerning alleged tax fraud.”

“A possible lack of rigor in the distribution of European funds could jeopardize the credibility of our country before European institutions and before civil society, therefore the Assembly of the Republic should, as a “representative assembly of all Portuguese citizens”, scrutinize the distribution they support and guarantee its correct attribution”, also considers P.A.N.
