Secretary of State for Health Sajid Javid and Finance Minister Rishi Sunak resigned on Tuesday from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government amid mistrust.
After these statements, one of the vice-presidents of the ruling Conservative Party of Great Britain, Bim Afolami, resigned from his post, TalkTV political editor Kate McCann said on Twitter. Jonathan Edward Gullis, the same match’s politician, also announced the end.
The news follows the resignations of two key ministers in Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government moments earlier, after he apologized for the latest scandal that rocked his administration.
In a statement that cites ReutersJavid mentions that he spoke with the Prime Minister to submit “the resignation as Secretary of State for Health and Social Assistance”.
“It has been a great honor for me to serve in this role, but I regret that I cannot continue in good conscience,” the Secretary of State said.
British Chancellor Rishi Sunak said he reluctantly concluded that “it can’t go on like this”.
We are talking about the position of Boris Johnson in the face of a sex scandal involving Chris Pincher, the former deputy head of the Conservative Party parliamentary bench.
Pincher is accused of groping two men during a night of drinking at a private club in the British capital. “I drank too much and disgraced myself,” the MP wrote in a letter in which he resigns as Deputy Head of the Conservative Bench, in which he makes no mention of the alleged sexual assault.
The Prime Minister’s Office hinted that Boris Johnson is pleased with the MP’s resignation and does not expect an investigation to open, calling the case closed, but several Conservative MPs and the Labor opposition are demanding that Pincher be investigated by police for sexual crimes.
However, the deputy was removed from office and cannot enter parliament.
Sajid Javid was embroiled in controversy after later admitting that for six years he held the status of a banker, which allowed him to legally avoid paying taxes on foreign income.
