“Among fiscal measures to control price increases, support measures and fiscal measures to contain production costs, measures to support the most vulnerable families and the most energy-dependent economic activities (…) from January to the present, the State has already mobilized 1,682 million euros”, António Costa said.

This information was conveyed by the leader of the socialists in a speech delivered by him at the opening of the meeting of the National Commission of the PS, which takes place in Ilhavo, Aveiro, and which he mainly devoted to the government’s measures to curb inflation, which rose to levels, according to the same, even his generation did not experienced.

Costa began by talking about the government’s response to energy, noting that the tax burden on fuel has “already been reduced by 18 percentage points.”

“If these measures were not taken, for a tank of 50 liters of diesel each Portuguese would pay 14 euros more than he pays, and for a tank of 50 liters of gasoline, each Portuguese would pay 16 euros more. “, he said.

In the field of electricity, the Socialist leader said that the measures that Portugal and Spain had managed to negotiate with the European Union had curbed “polluting the pricing of electricity due to the brutal increase in the price of gas.” .

He also highlighted the measures taken in the passenger and freight transport sector, with the launch in July and August of “an exceptional professional diesel fuel that will reduce the cost of professional diesel fuel by 17 cents per litre.”

Finally, he mentioned support for a food basket for the most vulnerable families, which covers more than a million families with a total value of 120 million euros.

“As with the pandemic, we are facing a global challenge that we must be able to cope with,” he concluded.
