Lavrov, who is starting a European tour, will meet his counterpart Alexander Schallenberg (VP) on Wednesday. The next day, Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (VP) received the key minister of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Afghanistan and Lukashenko
In addition to the situation in Afghanistan, the tense relationship between the EU and the Belarusian regime of Putin ally Alexander Lukashenko is also on the agenda, as the Federal Chancellery has confirmed.
Other topics are the corona pandemic and relations between the EU and Russia. Despite differences that can be openly addressed, for example on human rights issues or international law violations, it is important to stay in dialogue with Russia, said the Kurz office.
Lavrov, who will be arriving from Budapest, has also planned talks with businesspeople, the Russian Foreign Office said. Also on the two-day schedule: a meeting with members of the Austrian-Russian “Sochi Dialogue” and a visit to the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
