The emergency in Portugal due to fires will last from Friday to Sunday, the Prime Minister said this Thursday during a visit to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
This stance by António Costa on resuming the contingency was taken after a meeting with IPMA President Miguel Miranda and officials from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, which was also attended by Interior Minister José Luis Carneiro.
The prime minister wondered if the political solution should go through an extension of the emergency situation in Portugal, and received an affirmative answer.
“In the next few days, the temperature will drop, but over the past few days, we have accumulated fires. Although the number of fires tends to decrease, there is a legacy that passes day by day, in addition to increasing wear and tear. and tears of forces that are on earth,” Antonio Costa concluded.
António Costa said that “weather forecasts show that today is the most serious day in terms of rising temperatures.”
The prime minister clarified that “today we will have temperatures above 40 degrees and the drop in temperature on Monday will be around 30 degrees, which will still be high temperatures”, and warned that next week “we can no longer be in a state of unforeseen circumstances.” but we cannot go into a state of carelessness.”
