Computer attacks on bank accounts soared from January to March

The computer crime of “phishing” (sending emails to redirect victims’ banking and personal details) accounts for the largest share of total cybercrime complaints filed with the Attorney General’s Office (GP) in the first half of 2022. this organization in a statement published yesterday on the Internet, 852 complaints were received electronically and sent to PGR. Of these, 255, or about 30%, relate to phishing reports. Criminals illegally use the logos of government agencies such as Tax and Customs or EDP.

The goal in most cases is to redirect data from victims’ credit cards. Cryptocurrency (digital currency) scams also recorded, according to the PGR report, a particular preponderance in this report.

The public ministry received 63 complaints from victims of investment in this sector, which lures victims with promises of high returns. The same document also contained complaints of fraud in online purchases, in the purchase of houses, as well as with fake Internet pages.
