Changes to the CDS-PP charter proposed by party president Nuno Melo, which include the creation of new bodies and the cessation of internal currents, were approved this Saturday by a large majority at the founding congress in Aveiro.
Congressional Bureau President José Manuel Rodríguez said the proposal was approved by 609 votes to 18, with 20 abstentions.
The proposals of the activists Nuno Correia da Silva and José Augusto Gomes were rejected with 514 votes against, 63 in favor and 70 abstentions in the first case and 594 votes against, 42 abstentions and 11 in favor in the second.
Voting generally took place with hands up in the Aveiro congress center, which was packed.
The final global vote, which included the approval of the proposed amendments by Pedro Morais Soares and one by António Carlos Monteiro, the final text was approved by 578 votes in favour, 19 abstentions and 19 votes against.
Some 700 CDS-PP members discussed and approved changes to the party’s charter today at a convention in Aveiro marking the 48th anniversary of the party this afternoon, which lost parliamentary representation in the January legislative elections.
The disappearance of internal currents as a statutory figure was one of the proposals defended by party president Nuno Melo, who believes that the effectiveness of this instrument is “nothing” since there is only one, TEM, Tendência Esperança em Movimento.
One of the goals of the charter changes proposed by the board would be to “open the party to independents” and value “some of the core assets” of the CDS-PP.
In accordance with the charter changes approved today, the party is establishing new statutory bodies such as the Office of International Relations, the Office of Public Relations to professionalize and modernize this area, and the Office of Strategic and Program Support with specific industry areas. .
The President of CDS-PP said in his opening remarks today that he will invite Antonio Lobo Xavier and Miguel Morais Leitao to the Office of Strategic and Program Support, Luis Cairo to the Office of International Relations and Maria Luisa Aldim to the Office of Communications.
The creation of three assistant municipal coordinators (North, Center and South), new rules for the Senate and for the election of delegates from autonomous organizations (JP and FTDC) are other changes proposed by the leadership to Congress.
At the founding congress, the mandatory payment of quotas was not discussed or voted, which is disputed by the Constitutional Court, since this provision was already included in the charter and was only suspended, having been withdrawn in the National Council.
The statutory 30th Congress is taking place just over three months after the last major party meeting.
From 15:30, under the motto “CDS-PP 48 years of history / Party with a future”, party and independent speakers will speak in sectoral areas, while Nuno Melo will close.
