Bundestag election: Greens sing for election spots – and disturb many people

“No beautiful country” is one of the most famous German folk songs. Now the Greens have given it their own text for the federal election – but they hardly get any praise for it.

A sung election advertisement is definitely something that stands out from the mass of election advertisements. Whether it will also be positively received by viewers and listeners is another question. The Greens dared to experiment for the federal election and received very mixed reactions.

“No beautiful country” is one of the most famous German folk songs. It was published as early as 1840 and set to music by Heino, among others. Now the Greens have taken on the song and rewritten it as “A beautiful country”. Among other things, it says in the lines: “We have to see our earth // It’s getting too warm here for life // Fighting for the climate, // Short-haul flyers (meaning bees) // And my farm “. The text is sung by various people, the two party leaders only appear at the end of the commercial.

Brave or bad? Green election spot fails with users

The courage of the Greens is not rewarded in the social networks. The clip is mainly divided with the word “Cringe” – in German “Fremdscham”. There is also little agreement in the comments. An SPD politician writes “In the video I immediately have the taste of lukewarm fruit tea in my mouth.” , another user only recommends: “Dear Greens, please turn off this video.” Quite a few users are also bothered by a typographical error contained in the subtitles.

However, there has also been some positive feedback. For example, one user writes “Nice spot. Real people. You rarely get artificial perfection”, another adds “Very nice spot!”
