Child benefit is to be adjusted in the short term
The long-term goal of the traffic light coalition is to introduce basic child security and thus to bundle the previous financial support services for children from the state. The working group set up to work out the complex topic with experts from the Ministry for Family Affairs and the Federal Ministries for Finance, Justice, Labour, Education and Housing is working “intensively” on it, said Paus and reiterated their goal that basic child security will be paid out from 2025. “In the short term, we will primarily be talking about adjusting child benefits,” added Paus.
Referring to the subsistence level report that will be published in the autumn, the minister recently told the “Handelsblatt” that she assumes that the traffic light coalition will then “necessarily discuss tax exemptions, an increase in child benefit and higher standard rates”.
