The green candidate for chancellor speaks in stern-Interview about Söder and the wrong climate protection in Bavaria, why everyone in the country has to be able to afford electric cars and which ecological sins they still commit privately.
The green candidate for Chancellor Annalena Baerbock reaffirms her goal, renewable energies “expand significantly faster”. This is the only way to bring the planned phase-out of coal from 2038 to 2030. “Whoever says: I want climate protection, has to build wind turbines and solar systems”said the Greens chairman in an interview with the stern. “That means using a solar system on every new roof and two percent of the land area for wind power.”
In this context, Baerbock attacks the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU). “What no longer works: That Markus Söder stands up and demands a ‘climate change’, but makes rules in Bavaria that de facto prevent the construction of new wind turbines.” The conversion of the industrial site to a climate-neutral production method requires such large amounts of renewable electricity that “Mr. Söder cannot say: There is more sunshine in Bavaria, I just want solar power. We need both”.
The issue of climate protection should not divide the population, warned Baerbock. This also applies to traffic. Not all people live in large cities where they can easily travel by bus and train. “Cars are needed in the country”, so Baerbock. The main thing is: “Everyone must be able to afford clean cars. We have to ensure that a single parent or a nurse can at least buy a used electric car.” In her private life, she still drives a conventional car with a combustion engine. “We hope that our old Golf will get through the TÜV one more time – and an e-car has been pre-ordered for afterwards.”
Small environmental sins
When asked what little ecological sin she was indulging in despite being environmentally conscious, Baerbock replied: “For me, climate protection has nothing to do with sin. But I could and should eat less meat.” She does not want to do without completely. “Sometimes a Mettbrötchen is on my breakfast table.”
Just four weeks before the general election, the opinion polls put the Greens at values between 17 and 19 percent. In surveys, they were recently overtaken by the SPD, which is currently rated at 22 to 23 percent. In the case of direct elections, only 13 percent of voters would currently vote for Chancellor Baerbock.
