Government and ANMP sign agreement on decentralization in education and healthcare

The government and the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP) are signing this Friday in Coimbra a sectoral agreement on the decentralization of powers in education and health.

For the signing of the agreement, which will take place at the ANMP headquarters in Coimbra, at 17:00, in the presence of Prime Minister António Costa, Minister of Education Joao Costa, Minister of Health Marta Temido and Minister of Territorial Unity Ana Abruños.

On Monday, the ANMP approved a proposal for a decentralization agreement with the government in the areas of education and health, reaching a “huge consensus” after months of negotiations.

The agreement was approved by a majority vote in the ANMP General Council, with votes in favor of the mayors elected by the PS and PSD and votes against the mayors of the Communist Party.

At the time, ANMP President Luisa Salgueiro welcomed the “huge consensus” that came after he worked “in close collaboration with the government” in recent months to “stabilize the rules” in the fields of education and health.

According to also the chairman of the Matosinhos city council, in the approved agreement regarding the education sector “there will be a joint participation in the maintenance work of schools depending on how old they are” and school meals “will now have a contribution from the government of 2.75 euros “.

It also includes a map of priority schools to be reinstated “that may still be subject to corrections”, which “has 451 schools” and at the reimbursement level “covers ADSE insurance and reimbursement costs”. .

With regard to the health sector, the ANMP President said that the plan for the investments to be made has already been approved by the government, as well as with regard to staffing needs.

“We have fully satisfied the requirements submitted to us,” he stressed.
