Around 24 hours after a rampaging mob stormed the US Capitol building, injuring dozens and killing five, then-US President Donald Trump wanted to record a speech to the nation. Excerpts of the recording, which were cut out of the finished version, were now shown before the investigative committee of the House of Representatives. You can see a head of state reading his words from the teleprompter, repeatedly starting over and correcting the speech.
Donald Trump: “To those who broke the law”
The video makes it clear that even after the day, Trump still refuses to accept the election result and to speak of an “end of the election”. “I don’t want to say that the election is over,” he says – although this was in the draft speech. His daughter Ivanka then helps him find a version he can live with. He can say that Congress has certified the result, according to Donald Trump. But not that the election was over.
