The PS welcomed the decentralization agreement signed this Friday in Coimbra between the government and the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities, considering it to be a structural reform of the country.

In a statement, the Deputy Secretary General of the PS, Joao Torres, believes that with the signing of this agreement in the field of health and education, “a decisive step has been taken in reforming the state and bringing its services closer to citizens.”

“We welcome the commitment of all stakeholders and, of course, mayors in the person of ANMP President Luisa Salgueiro. PS remains firmly convinced that decentralization is the cornerstone of government reform and recognizes that big change always involves dialogue and consultation,” he says.

For the Socialists, the compromise agreement approved this week in the Council of Ministers “aims to provide the municipalities with the necessary funds to carry out their mission and better serve the citizens through the process of decentralization, especially in the field of education.” health”.

“In the field of education, the agreement includes increasing the cost of maintaining schools, renovating and retraining schools identified as priority, and updating school meal reimbursement. In the area of ​​healthcare, the agreement includes the construction of new medical centers and retraining work with funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), the purchase of electric vehicles for the provision of medical services under the PRR, and the possibility of involving municipalities in determining the schedules of health centers,” it emphasizes. statement.
