Chega leader Andre Ventura guaranteed this Saturday in the Azores that the party “will continue to denounce and control” the use of public money, whether in the regional parliament or the national one.
This is “a job that Chega will continue to do in the regional parliament: to condemn and control these particular jobs and demand that they be done on the calendar,” he said.
André Ventura spoke after visiting work at the port of Lages das Flores in the Azores, which was virtually destroyed by the passage of Hurricane Lorenzo in October 2019.
At the time, Chegi’s leader claimed that his visit was intended to demonstrate the party’s focus on the “reconstruction” of this infrastructure and to show its “concern” about controlling the “use of public money”.
In the national parliament, Chega will continue to demand that the government “enforce” what it “obliges” “the Azoreans and in particular the Florentines,” Andre Ventura added.
“And that is what we are doing here today, checking the good progress of these works, concerned about their delays, recognizing that difficulties also exist, but calling on national and regional governments to speed up both the disbursement of funds and the execution of the work,” said leader Chegi, underlining the importance of restoring the port of Lages das Flores.
According to him, “it is important that these works continue” and that they be completed “within the defined and presented timeframes.”
“I never cease to regret the delays that have occurred not only in the work, but also on the part of the central government in terms of allocating the necessary funds that were promised and guaranteed to the regional government of the Azores,” he stressed.
Chega/Azores MP José Pacheco emphasized the importance of the work in the port of Lages das Flores, “necessary for the survival of the island.
“Once again we have come to give a voice to the Florentines in a work that is fundamental to the import and export of goods. We see that the work is progressing, but we are also concerned about its completion and its cost, which no one knows yet,” said José Pacheco, regional leader of Chega.
José Pacheco also defended that the Azores “should also have the opportunity” to “establish itself” so that “everything does not go according to the good will of the Republic”.
“We live in a region prone to climate and geography, and we must be ready not only financially, but also politically,” he stressed.
Andre Ventura started on Friday a visit to the western group (Flores and Corvo) of the Azores.
Today, the Chega leader also visited the traditional cheese factory in Fajazinha on the island of Flores, and on Sunday he goes to Corva, the smallest island in the Azores, returning on Monday to Flores, from where he leaves at the end of the day in Ponta Delgada (San Miguel) to go to the mainland.
