Ukraine-News: Baerbock: Russia seeks ‘complete subjugation of Ukraine’

Despite the summer temperatures, the news situation in Ukraine is chilly. Then Russia is cutting back gas supplies via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. In the end, only 20 percent of the possible gas volumes are to be pumped west. Read here what that means and how the EU is preparing for it. But one thing is becoming particularly clear these days: winter could be cold.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sharply criticized Russia’s announcement. “These are just different forms of terror,” says Zelenskyj. That is why the West must strike back. Instead of thinking about returning the already repaired gas turbine, he calls for sanctions against Russia to be further tightened, not without warning that Putin is using the gas as a “geopolitical weapon”.

What is important today:

Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is visiting the Czech Republic and Slovakia this Tuesday. The Greens also want to talk about the Ukraine war there. The Czech Republic has held the EU Council Presidency since July 1st. Germany is also cooperating with its NATO and EU partners to supply Ukraine with weapons.

At a special meeting in Brussels, the energy ministers want to officially confirm the emergency plan that has been drawn up to save on gas.
