The immunologist warned that a new variant of Covid-19, Ómicron BA.5, appears to cause new symptoms, namely those that appear at night.
Ómicron BA.5 is a highly contagious variant that is of concern due to a new wave of infections worldwide, including Portugal, which accounts for 95.6% of infections with this strain.
“A new symptom of BA.5 that I noticed this morning is night sweats,” said immunologist and professor Luke O’Neill of Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.
The BA.5 subvariant was first detected in February in South Africa, one month after BA.4 was identified in the same country.
Scientists have found differences from previous variants, including the ability to re-infect people weeks after being infected with Covid-19.
