The tracking of contacts by the health authorities was considered an important tool against the spread of the coronavirus, especially at the beginning of the pandemic. That seems to be changing in some federal states.
After North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg is also planning to dispense with mass contact tracing in corona cases in the future. Accordingly, the health authorities should no longer have to follow up the contacts – for example in cinemas or restaurants – in every corona case.
The Ministry of Health in Stuttgart confirmed a report in the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” on Wednesday, according to which the state is preparing a change of strategy here. So far, the data was necessary so that the health authorities can track down the people next to them in the event of a corona case.
The situation has changed to the extent that “there is an increasing number of people who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered,” said a ministry spokesman. “Anyone who has been vaccinated or has recovered, as a rule – even if he or she is the contact person – does not have to be in quarantine.” The future goal is: “We want to concentrate our efforts on intelligently tracking the focus of outstanding events.”
The ministry is preparing an update of the relevant ordinance on quarantine. When the concept is ready, the state government will deal with it in one of its next meetings in the coming weeks. But it is also clear: “A separation obligation is still provided for unvaccinated or recovered household members.” In NRW, visitors to bars or restaurants have not had to enter any data since Friday.
