Oleg Kostyukov, “an important official of the Russian embassy” in Italy, is said to have asked Antonio Capuano, the League leader’s adviser on foreign relations, “whether the League ministers are ready to withdraw from the Draghi government.”
According to the newspaper La Stampa, Prime Minister and League leader Matteo Salvini reportedly responded that the claim was “nonsense” and “fake news”. Foreign Minister of Italy, Luigi Di Maio will now demand an explanation to see if Putin has really brought down the government. “If that were the case, it would be something really serious,” he said.
The article, where the newspaper cites these articles signed by Jacopo Iacoboni, cites excerpts from documents of the Italian secret services, with conversations between the League adviser and Oleg Kostyukov, which took place two months before the fall of the government, at a time when the League and the Five Star Movement opposed the new supply of weapons Ukraine. “The diplomat, hinting at a possible Russian interest in destabilizing the balance of the Italian government through this operation, asked if the League ministers were ready to leave the government,” the newspaper writes, citing intelligence sources.
According to La StampaKostyukov is the man who bought the tickets for Matteo Salvini’s visit to Moscow, which was later ignored.
