The fire that broke out on Wednesday in Reval, Vila Poca de Aguiar, was believed to be under control on Friday evening but broke out at dawn, a CDOS source told Lusa, noting that no houses were in danger.
“There is no more serious situation” and “it is expected to be resolved within a few hours,” said a source in the Vila Real County Relief Operations Command.
The fire is being put out by 350 operatives, assisted by 92 vehicles and two aircraft, according to information posted on the website of the National Civil Protection Administration.
Miguel Fonseca, a CDOS commander in Vila Real, who spoke to reporters at 8:00 pm on Friday, explained that the situation was “much calmer” in the late afternoon of that day and that “everything went according to plan.”
“We have almost the entire perimeter in the process of securing. We even dare to say that in a short time and without any surprises, we can consider the fire under control, ”he stressed.
Throughout Friday afternoon, several aircraft and tracked vehicles assisted operators in the field.
During the night, funds were redeployed to maintain a “mass presence” of people in operations to secure, eliminate the consequences and observe, but still it was not possible to avoid a resumption of fire.
The alarm about this fire was raised on Wednesday at 17:14 in Reval, and in a short time there was a great mobilization of forces for this incident, which had a very rapid development in the pine forest area and even advanced on three fronts.
Miguel Fonseca said on Friday evening that the fight is complicated by weather conditions, high temperatures during the day and strong winds with constant fluctuations.
This is the second major fire this week in the area. A fire that broke out on July 17 in Cortinhas, Mursa, spread to Vila Poca de Aguiar and burned a vast area with pines and shrubs, chestnut groves, vineyards and pastures.
