PSD asks the government to “respond urgently” to a pregnant woman who lost her baby in Santarém

PSD deputies elected by Santarém sent a statement to the government asking for “an urgent response to the situation of a pregnant woman who lost her baby” when the emergency obstetric service at the Centro Hospitalar Médio Tejo was closed.

The elected Social Democrats want the findings of the death of a child whose mother was monitored in the hospital de Abrantes but who had to go to the district hospital of Santarém “on suspicion of incipient labor” to be sent to the Assembly. Republic.

The PSD deputies also demanded that the investigation announced by the government in connection with the death of another child in June at the Caldas da Rainha hospital should also be referred to the Assembly of the Republic.

A pregnant woman from Vila de Rei traveled more than 100 kilometers to Santarém on Wednesday when the emergency gynecology and obstetrics department at the Hospital de Abrantes in her area of ​​residence was closed.

The elected Social Democrats said in a statement that the “permanent restrictions” on the hospital’s emergency services had reached “a severity until recently unimaginable in Portugal”, with “a dramatic human cost”.

In the same note, the deputies mentioned that the findings of the investigation announced by the Centro Hospitalar Médio Tejo should be made known to the Assembly of the Republic “in order to be able to strictly assess the specific circumstances and the exact context in which the death of the infant occurred.”

“This assessment will not only determine the necessary responsibility, but, above all, will prevent the recurrence of similar situations in the future,” added the elected PSD.

A statement released this Friday stressed that “only through careful clarification by public authorities will it be possible to put an end to the social anxiety that this catastrophic event is generating.”
