Marcelo Rebelo de Souza stated that he never commented on internal issues between the parties and that he would not “open precedents”. The statements were made following a meeting between the President of the Republic and André Ventura.
The Chega leader asked for a meeting to discuss moments of tension in the Assembly of the Republic after the “battle” with Augusto Santos Silva. The deputy from Chega accused the Chairman of the Assembly of the Republic of “lack of impartiality and independence” in the conduct of work in parliament in relation to the deputy group of Chega.
To all journalists’ questions about Andre Ventura, Marcelo replied: “I can’t stand myself.” Recall that the deputies of the party left the plenary session after Augusto Santos Silva answered directly to Andre Ventura.
The President of the Republic also said that during the previous Legislative Assembly he had been asked several times by various parties to intervene, but he had not done so.
Also, when asked about an open letter from D. Manuel Clemente, Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon, that he allegedly did not report a case of sexual abuse by a priest, Marcelo did not answer.
