The fire that has been raging since Wednesday in Vila Pouca de Aguiar remains under control today, with “no hotspots” but with two areas “inspiring great caution”, the municipality said.
In a situation report published on its website, the municipality states that “the fire has no hotspots, but there are two areas that require more caution due to the possibility of re-ignition.”
“Planned consolidation and clean-up efforts will continue for the next 48 hours if there are no new outbreaks, given today’s expected increase in temperature and wind,” he added.
Also, according to information available at 10:30 a.m. on the website of the National Office for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection (ANEPC), the fire that started on Wednesday in Reval, Vila Poca de Aguiar, in the Vila Real area, has been extinguished.
There were 203 operational staff on the ground, supported by 58 vehicles and five aircraft.
The alarm about this fire was raised on Wednesday at 17:14 in Reval, and in a short time there was a great mobilization of forces for this incident, which had a very rapid development in the pine forest area and even advanced on three fronts.
The fighting was complicated by weather conditions, high daytime temperatures and strong and ever-changing winds.
On Friday evening, the fire was considered defeated, but during the Sabbath day it re-emerged several times, while a large number of cars remained on the ground.
This is the second major fire this week in the area.
A fire that broke out on July 17 in Cortinhas, Mursa, spread to Vila Poca de Aguiar and burned a vast area with pines and shrubs, chestnut groves, vineyards and pastures.
According to the municipality, Vila Pouca de Aguiar has lost about 4,000 hectares of pine forest, shrubs and crops as a result of two major fires that have raged in the municipality over the past two weeks, causing significant financial damage to the local population.
