MPLA candidate in Angola elections says he’s attentive to youth issues

The leader of the MPLA, Angola’s ruling party and electoral candidate, said on Monday in Luanda that he is attentive to the problems of the youth, the majority of Angola’s population, and that he will “set the course” of the electoral dispute.

João Lourenço, speaking at the opening of the 18th National Camp for University Students (Canfeu), which is taking place in the Angolan capital, said that the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) is attentive to the problems of youth, the solution of which must be sought together.

“The first team doesn’t need to take the field, the juniors solve the problem, and the juniors are you, they are the youth, because in fact who will determine the course of this election dispute is, without a shadow of a doubt, our youth. which makes up the vast majority of our population,” he said.

According to the leader of the MPLA and the head of the party list of candidates for the presidency of the republic, for the second term, universities generate knowledge that needs to be put at the service of the country and humanity.

“We will make a strong commitment to advancing scientific research and partnerships with various partner institutions abroad, a constant and closer dialogue between academia and society that helps improve people’s daily lives is what we will pay due attention to,” promised. Joao Laurence.

The MPLA leader stated that higher education institutions will be responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and use of the potential of their students, especially young ones, in the field of the university sector.

“Research is thus a lever that will enable higher education institutions to expand their capacity to establish partnerships, maintain a constant and fruitful dialogue with society and the communities in which these institutions are included,” he stressed.

According to João Lourenço, the MPLA “with such a vision will make Angolan universities one of the best in Africa and enter the world rankings.”

“Only those who understand the strategic value of training with such a vision talk about training, the MPLA has such a vision, has this interest and counts on all of you to continue to create the conditions for this to happen,” he stressed.

The 18th edition of Canfeu, an initiative of the youth division of the MPLA, runs with a thousand participants under the slogan “University Youth, Participate Together in the General Election”.

On August 24, Angola will hold its fifth general election, in which eight competing political forces are campaigning.
