The PSD is demanding a thorough analysis of the Endesa dispute from the government.

Miguel Pinto Luz, PSD’s vice president, accused Antonio Costa of “overreacting” to the Endesa controversy, which includes a 40 percent increase in electricity prices.

The Social Democrat also mentions that the government does not offer solutions in the face of a situation that is detrimental to the Portuguese, therefore it requires a serious and thorough analysis of the situation. From the party leader’s point of view, it is important to publicize the emergency social assistance program that provides assistance to the Portuguese, namely in the context of supporting food and basic living expenses.

“In order to fully clarify this whole issue and really clearly and transparently know what is the true impact of the brake mechanism on the prices that all consumers have to pay (…), PSD will immediately ask ERSE to make and publish in a transparent, rigorous and reliable manner a serious analysis on this issue,” PSD Vice President Miguel Pinto Luz said in a statement to reporters at the party’s headquarters in Lisbon.

The issue of rising electricity prices, which is an issue of high social significance for the SDP, is being handled “too lightly”, requiring a speedy solution to these problems.

According to PSD, it is necessary “once and for all” to find out how much the Portuguese will pay when applying the Iberian mechanism, which provides for capping electricity prices.
