On a day when the temperature reached 40 degrees in Idanha a Nova, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa took a real mass bath during his visit to the National Scout Camp (ACANAC). “I notice a big evolution compared to what it was five years ago. A very thorough preparation has been made, which shows that much has been learned from the previous edition,” said the President of the Republic, who defends the National Scout Corps (CNE) as “a school of values in the service of society.”
Under the motto “Builders of Tomorrow”, the 24th edition of ACANAC brings together over 18,500 Scouts and marks the start of next year’s CNE centenary celebrations.
The 79 hectares of the Scouting Center in Idanha a Nova has two supermarkets, two dining halls with 60,000 meals, six bars, a sea field, an adventure field and a show arena for 22,000 people. In this “canvas city”, which rises every five years on the slopes of Mount Trigo, a hospital, four infirmaries and various ancillary buildings were also arranged.
In addition to scouts from all regions of the country, the largest camp in Portugal will host young people from 24 other nationalities, including 50 Ukrainians.
