Enough, demands an urgent hearing of the president of INEM in parliament

Chega demanded this Wednesday an urgent hearing with the President of INEM so that Luis Meira could explain to the Assembly of the Republic about the “failures in assistance” and the “lack of coordination”.

“Inability of INEM to provide assistance, lack of coordination condemned by some SIEM stakeholders [Sistema Integrado de Emergência Médica]as well as the strategy (if any) to prevent them, so it is urgent to clarify before the representatives of the citizens, given the existing situation of social anxiety”, justify the deputies Pedro Frazao and Filipe Melú in an appeal addressed to the Sauda Commission and released this Wednesday by the party.

Chega cites as an example the case of a woman who “fell on a pedestrian crossing in Campolide”, Lisbon, July 18, “after waiting over an hour and 15 minutes for medical attention”.

The party claims that the woman has died and that “INEM officials stated that at the time [o Instituto] There were no vehicles available.

“By carefully considering the information and complaints of the population that exist in this area, it is not difficult to conclude that this is not a unique situation,” notes Khwat.

MPs from the far-right party also point out that this situation is not new and that last year “the medical resuscitation vehicles (VMER) of INEM were stopped for 5400 hours due to lack of crew, that is, due to the lack of a doctor to provide assistance in emergency cases” .

“In total, the ambulances have worked almost seven thousand hours, the highest rate of inoperability since 2014,” they add.

Noting that “the problem is more severe in the interior,” Chega says that “in 2021, VMER hospitals in Guarda, Covilhã, Castelo Branco and Portalegre were out of service for a total of 3,254 hours, corresponding to 135 full days.”

“As a result of these situations and the apparent failure of INEM in coordinating medical care, as it is responsible for this competence within the Integrated Emergency Medical Services (SIEM), the time for delivery of care is too short. long., having found themselves in some situations, as it seems to have happened in the above, in the causes of the death of affected people who were not provided with assistance in a timely manner”, the party still regrets.
