13 US soldiers lost their lives in the suicide attack, one of them was Marine Infantryman Nicole Gee. Shortly before, the young woman had written on Instagram that she loved her job.
She was in Kabul, Afghanistan to save people from the Taliban and to evacuate them. A job that Nicole Gee from California fulfilled. Gee was on duty at Kabul Airport when a suicide bomber blew himself up outside the gate on Thursday. She is one of the US soldiers who was killed in the attack.
Afghanistan: Deceased US soldier Nicole Gee protected baby
A photo distributed by the US Department of Defense shows the 23-year-old a few days before the devastating attack that not only killed 13 soldiers but also dozens of civilians. Gee then holds an Afghan baby in her arms protectively. On Instagram she wrote about the touching picture: “I love my job.” The same picture was posted on the U.S. Department of Defense Twitter account on Aug. 21.
According to the agency, Gee was assigned to a unit of Marines from the state of North Carolina.

“Fallen Heroes”
The young woman regularly posted impressions from her professional life on her Instagram profile. It was not until the beginning of August that she was appointed sergeant in Kuwait and published a picture of herself proudly holding the certificate in her hands. The last photo the soldier posted shows her next to waiting people who are being evacuated from Afghanistan by the US Army.
In addition to Nicole Gee, ten other Marines died in the attack. “These fallen heroes have answered the call to put themselves in danger to help others. We are proud of their service and deeply saddened at their loss,” said the Twitter account of the official captain of the Marines, David H. Berger.
