Lobbying: Porsche-Gate: Lindner asked for “argumentative support”

The Porsche Gate caused great outrage: How deeply is Finance Minister Christian Lindner involved in lobbying? Information about an SMS brings new insights.

Finance Minister Christian Lindner has asked Porsche boss Oliver Blume for “argumentative support” in the debate on synthetic fuels. However, the SMS contact only took place after the federal government had positioned itself on the subject at EU level in June, the German Press Agency learned from government circles. The “Handelsblatt” had previously reported on the SMS on June 28th.

According to dpa information, Lindner sent his message around 16 hours after the German statement was submitted in Brussels. In the meantime, Environment Minister Steffi Lemke (Greens) had publicly questioned the common position of the traffic light government. Lindner then wrote to Blume that he thought it advisable for another voice to point out the potential of e-fuels. “I can certainly use argumentative support there.” As a supplement to e-mobility, Porsche is increasingly relying on synthetic fuels, especially for its flagship, the 911.

At the end of June, there was a dispute in the traffic light coalition about a ban on new registrations of combustion cars from 2035 at EU level. Lindner had rejected the ban plans with reference to the coalition agreement. In it, the traffic light plans to ban new registrations for combustion engines from 2035 – but there should be an exception for cars that can only be operated with e-fuels. E-fuels are fuels for petrol or diesel engines that are less harmful to the climate than conventional fuel.
