Tens of thousands have so far been flown out of Afghanistan. But what about them next? About 20,500 of them are currently at the US Air Force Base in Ramstein.
Around 20,500 evacuees from Afghanistan had landed at Ramstein Air Base in Rhineland-Palatinate by Saturday.
This was announced by the world’s largest US air force base outside of America. Ramstein near Kaiserslautern has been a US hub for refugees from Afghanistan since August 20th.
About 100 aircraft of the United States Air Force had arrived at the air base, reported a spokeswoman for the base. More than 5,000 evacuees had traveled from there on around 22 flights. The flights are expected to last for the whole weekend.
Those seeking protection, such as former US local staff in Afghanistan and their families, who are leaving their homeland for fear of the Taliban, are initially accommodated in tents and aircraft hangars at the air base. You will be registered and medically treated if necessary. The US military facility Rhine Ordnance Barracks in Kaiserslautern also temporarily accommodates people from Afghanistan.
