Rocket attacks on Israel after killing of jihadi military chief

STORY: In the Gaza Strip, the worst escalation of violence between Israel and Palestinians in more than a year has continued for the second day in a row. The Israeli Air Force again attacked targets in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, and the Palestinians continued to fire rockets into Israeli territory. The attacks follow an Israeli special operation against the Islamic Jihad militant in Gaza on Friday that, according to Israeli sources, killed a top commander. In this Israeli attack, nine other Palestinians were killed and 79 injured, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said. At least four members of Islamic Jihad and a child were among the dead. Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired at least 160 rockets across the border, most of which were intercepted, the Israeli military said. A few people in Israel were slightly injured when they ran into shelters. Palestinian leaders said Egypt, the United Nations and Qatar had begun mediation efforts to end the violence. So far there hasn’t been a breakthrough.
