In a note published on the official website of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Souza stated that between the first “collected verse” by Ana Luisa Amaral, published in 2005, and the second, in 2010, “it became clear that there is no script for the Portuguese poetry of the last decades would be complete without Ana Louise Amaral, not because of similarities with others, but because of the features: a certain theme, a certain imagery and a certain melody, melodic and dissonant, touching and ironic. .

“Avoiding the somewhat fictitious homogeneity of ‘generations’, Ana Luisa Amaral never ceased to correspond passionately with her time; by diversifying her work, she created an indestructible unity,” said Marcelo Rebelo de Souza.

“To use the lines of one of his most famous poems, we can say that “the most perfect excess” is that which gets rid of pride, but not ambition,” he added.

Lamenting “with great regret” the writer’s death, the President of the Republic recalled that in April Ana Luisa Amaral had been awarded the title of Companion of the Order of Sant’Iago da Espada and that the presentation of the insignia was scheduled for the opening of a book fair in Porto at the end of this month, “where she will be and will be marked.

Marcelo Rebelo de Souza also highlighted the university writer’s career at the University of Porto and her civic intervention, writing a dissertation on Dickinson, an essay on “New Portuguese Letters”, “Dicionário de Crítica Feminista”, and “a commitment to cultural, social and political causes”.

Poet Ana Luisa Amaral, recently awarded the Raina Sofia Prize for Ibero-American Poetry, died Friday at the age of 66, the University of Porto (UP) said on Saturday.

The body of Ana Luisa Amaral will be in the burning chamber from 17:00 this Saturday in Capela do Corpo Santo, in Lesa da Palmeira.

The funeral will take place on Sunday at 11:15 am at Thanatório de Matosinhos.
