The arsenal consisted of 20 North American-made 7.62 caliber Colt combat rifles, weapons used by military forces in several parts of the world, and more than 1,300 5.56 caliber ammunition from other military weapons. detained early this Saturday in the interior of the Brazilian state of São Paulo. The weapon was found during a stopover operation on the Orlando Cuagliato highway in the Orinhos region, 378 km from the city of Sao Paulo.
The agents were suspicious of the two luxury cars, which slowly, without drawing attention, approached the barrier. In the end, they came up to them. The nervousness of the two drivers further heightened the suspicion, but nothing illegal was found during the initial search of the vehicles.
The police, however, decided to investigate further and, using the right tools, began to cut the sides of the cars, eventually uncovering false caches. In addition to powerful military weapons, also used by groups associated with organized crime, they contained 1,312 shells and 10 magazines.
The two drivers arrested at the crime scene for arms dealing did not want to speak, but police believe the guns were destined for criminals in the capitals of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Captured-like weapons are capable of hitting targets from miles away, and have already killed innocents this year in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, far from where the clashes took place, but where stray bullets hit innocents.
