More than 20 billion euros from European funds were spent on the implementation.

More than 20 billion euros of the European Structural and Investment Funds included in Portugal 2020 have already been spent on the implementation of projects. According to the Mais Transparência portal, 20,160,000,000 euros have been spent on execution, including five structural and investment funds.

The European Regional Development Fund is at the forefront of the implementation list, having spent 8.3 billion euros. Although the value of this fund is 11 billion, the approved amount is set at 13.5 billion. It is followed by the European Social Fund, which spent 6.1 billion euros on the project out of a total approved 9.2 billion euros. In third place is the European Agricultural Rural Development Fund with €3.7 billion spent, and in fourth place is the Cohesion Fund with €1.8 billion spent. Finally, there is the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, which has implemented 260 million of the total approved 391 million.

As for the regions, taking into account all the funds, the North is in the lead with 6.8 billion euros spent. This is followed by the Center with 4.7 billion and Alentejo with 1.6 billion. Both the Lisbon metropolitan area and the Azores have billions. Madeira already accounts for 582 million and the Algarve 339 million.

The Instituto do Emprego is the main beneficiary
According to Mais Transparência, out of 78,297 beneficiaries, Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional is the main beneficiary of European funds under the Portugal 2020 program, with funding of 1.9 billion euros and 400 projects. In second place is the General Administration of Higher Education with $743 million in funding and 45 projects. In third place is Infraestruturas de Portugal with 597 million euros in funding and 21 projects.
